Tennessee Graduate Nursing Loan Forgiveness Program
What will you be doing in two years from now ?
Can you picture yourself returning to school this fall for a graduate degree?
Can you picture yourself graduating in two years and holding a nursing faculty position in Tennesse?
If so, picture yourself helping to prevent the projected nursing shortage in our state!
The Tennessee Graduate Nursing Loan-Forgiveness Program was enacted in 2006 to encourage Tennessee resident nurses to become teachers and administrators in Tennessee nursing education programs. Applicants for funding shall become a candidate in an eligible master's degree or post master's degree nursing program at an eligible institution. Awards are highly competitive and are based on funding availability.
Participants in this program incur an obligation to enter a faculty or administrative position in a nursing education program in Tennessee immediately upon completion of the education program. For each year of continuous full-time employment in a Tennssee nursing education program, in a teaching or administrative capacity, 25% of the loan will be cancelled. For each year of continuous part-time employement, 12.5% of the loan will be cancelled.
To be eligible for the graduate loan you must:
- be a Tennessee resident and a U.S. citizen, and
- have an unencumbered Tennessee nursing license, and
- be enrolled either part-time or full-time in an eligible academic program at an eligible postsecondary institution, and
- provide written evidence of intent to become employed full-time or part-time in a Tennessee nursing education program in a teaching or administrative capacity, and
- maintain satisfactory academic progress, and
- not be in default on or owe a refund for a Tennessee of federal Title IV student financial aid program, and
- sign a promissory note before receiving any funds.
